Zambezi River, Lake Kariba, Victoria Falls & Rail Journey Luxury Safari

An unforgettable 12 night African Safari  – a luxury wilderness experience

4 nights on the banks of the Zambezi River in Zambia; 3 nights on a luxury cruiser on Lake Kariba in Zimbabwe; 2 nights at the Grand Old Lady of the Falls in  Victoria Falls in  Zimbabwe, 3 nights rail journey from Victoria Falls to Pretoria, South Africa

Your safari will begin with a scenic flight from Lusaka to the beautiful Zambezi River where you will spend 4 nights in the luxurious Baines River Camp, on the banks of the mighty Zambezi River in Zambia, directly opposite Zimbabwe’s Mana Pools World Heritage Site.  Enjoy both land and water activities, including game drives, boat cruises, fishing (tiger fish etc), birding and canoe excursions in and around one of Africa’s last remaining true wilderness areas, the Lower Zambezi Park, home to home to large herds of elephant, buffalo and antelope, a variety of predators including lion, leopard and hyena and many other mammal species and 374 bird species. Open plains and wide views across the Zambezi River, this is undoubtedly one of Africa’s most beautiful wilderness areas.

A scenic boat ride and road transfer will take you to Kariba in Zimbabwe where you will board Matusadona Houseboat and sail off into paradise aboard your private safari cruiser for 3 nights – an intimate luxury lodge on the expansive waters of Lake Kariba. With spacious air-conditioned luxurious cabins for up to six guests, situated right on the waterline, you’ll feel at one with nature.  The gentle lapping of waves, the frequent grunt of the hippos, the distant lion’s roar, the cough of a leopard, the eerie cry of the Fish Eagle and all the attendant sounds of Africa – you’re in the real bush whilst cocooned in the lap of luxury. Game viewing by boat and on land, sunset cruises, tiger fishing, bream fishing, relaxing in the Jacuzzi and just simply taking in the beauty of Lake Kariba await you.

After an unfortgettable 3 nights on Lake Kariba, you will disembark Matusadona and be transferred by tender boat to Bumi Hills airstrip and enjoy a scenic air transfer to Victoria Falls.  Your next 2 nights will be spent in colonial style at the infamous “Grand old lady of the Falls”, the luxurious Victoria Falls Hotel in Zimbabwe, is set in lush tropical gardens providing tranquillity and seclusion and overlooking the magnificent Victoria Falls and bridge. The Edwardian-style five-star hotel, built in 1904, redecorated and refurbished, combines the charm of the old with the convenience of the new. The famous Victoria Falls are just a ten-minute walk away using the hotel’s private pathway, and “the smoke that thunders” or “Mosi-O-Tunya” in the local dialect, is clearly audible and visible from this luxurious landmark.

All aboard… your luxury train will depart from Victoria Falls on a 3 night adventure along one of the world’s longest stretches of straight railway line – 114 kilometres – after traversing Zimbabwe’s largest reserve, Hwange National Park, a rich and diverse wildlife sanctuary where animals can be spotted from the train and a game drive excursion is enjoyed. The train travels on the BBR line to Bulawayo, second city of Zimbabwe, capital of Matabeleland and industrial capital of the country. Thereafter formalities at Beitbridge take place. The train then crosses the Tropic of Capricorn passes the edge of the escarpment, winds its way through Nylstroom, christened by the Voortrekkers as the source of the Nile River as the town’s river happened to be north flowing, Warmbaths, so named for its mineral waters, and stops in Pretoria. Depending upon railway capacity, this journey could be routed through Botswana.
