The upper deck holds the lounge, bar and dining area as well as a fore and aft deck, ideal for relaxing and watching the world go by with a signature Shayamanzi cocktail in hand.

The fully stocked galley and staff quarters are upfront which accommodate our crew for the duration of the cruise.

The tender boats accompany the main houseboat and provide a perfect opportunity to move quietly and freely along the water’s edge viewing the game and bird life. They are also the playground of the fishing enthusiasts who endeavour to land the famous and often elusive tiger fish.

Entertainment is provided in the form of a 37” LCD screen with DSTV and a DVD Home Theatre System provides a wide variety of music to choose from. There is even karaoke for those keen on a humorous evening! The wet bar has a separate surround sound music system so that those relaxing in the Jacuzzi may choose their own rhythms. If that is not enough, there is also a dart board and please do bring your own board games.

As you lie in your oak paneled cabin on a Lake Jozini Houseboat Safari the stars reflecting on the water and the moonlight shining through the fluttering, drifting curtains, you wonder what could be more romantic. The hippos snorting in the nearby bay remind you that you are surrounded by nature at its best. The water system is top class resulting in a hot pressurized shower.

All the cabins are en-suite with shower, basin and toilet.
They have plug points, hairdryers and fans.

Shayamanzi Activities

EXPERIENCES – Lake Jozini Houseboat Safari

The Game Reserves surrounding Lake Jozini host many animal species which can be seen in herds from Shayamanzi’s decks: White and Black Rhino, Elephant, Buffalo, Hippo, Crocodile, Wildebeest, Giraffe, Zebra, Kudu, Nyala, Bushbuck, Mountain Reedbuck, Common Reedbuck, Red Duiker, Grey Duiker, Waterbuck, Steenbuck, Suni Antelope, Black Backed Jackal, Hyena, Cheetah, Wild Dog, Cerval Cat, Warthog, Bushpig, Banded Mongoose, Legavaan, Terrapin and the occasional sighting of Leopard which roam the slopes of the Lebombo Mountain Range.

The muddy plains and reed banks provide excellent breeding grounds for the waterbirds which can be seen in thousands – Whistling Duck, Yellowbilled Storks, Spurwing and Egyptian Geese, Commorants, various Herons, Kingfishers, and several Fish Eagles.

Along the entire Western bank is the magnificent Lebombo Mountain Range. One of the evening anchorages may be a night in the Gorge. Here the Mountains rise either side of you, covered in indigenous cycads and ferns and where the glo-flies make a spectacular show along the shoreline.

Some of the overnight anchorages are in the River and at Mosquito Bay; both great fishing areas and very well positioned for game viewing.

Lake Jozini is surrounded by the Pongola Game Reserve and Pongolo Nature Reserve, which provide spectacular game viewing from the water’s edge. The Pongola Reserves are teaming with a large variety of wildlife which can be viewed from the Shayamanzi Houseboat’s decks or tender boats. Double pontoon tender boats accompany the houseboat on her cruise. These are used by the passengers to explore the Lake’s secret coves for fishing or game viewing purposes and are skippered by the Shayamanzi crew.

Lake Jozini is the only water in South Africa where you find the ferocious, fighting Tiger Fish, an African game fish that thrills you as it jumps out the water, throwing its head from side to side trying to get off your line. Tackle and rods are available

The guide dresses your trace up with a fish you would have been glad to have caught back home and calls it “bait”. You ask him what size Tiger Fish he’s expecting to eat that, and he replies with a dead pan face “Don’t worry we’ll try for the larger ones this afternoon.”

The Tiger Fish is a fierce and wild creature that demands respect from all forms of life that may happen across its path. The Tiger Fish is regarded by most as being the best freshwater game fish in Africa.
