Day 1 Sunday, 22 August 2021

Your host and driver will collect you from you home and we will driver through to King Shaka Airport. On arrival at the airport, we will proceed to the departure hall and check in at the Mango Airlines counter, for our flight to Cape Town. Please note that flights have not been included.

On arrival at Cape Town Airport, collect your bags and head to the exit. A representative from Africa Memories Travel will be waiting to meet us. Once your bags have been loaded into the vehicle you will depart straight on our flower journey to the quaint village of Darling, also known as the “flower of the West Coast”. Lunch will be served on arrival at the Marmalade Cat country style bistro. We will have time this afternoon to visit some of the surrounding flower farms.

Darling Lodge

Overnight: DARLING LODGE, DARLING
Darling Lodge Guest House offers a harmonious blend of old and new reflecting the romantic name of the little town. The main house, the Victorian charm of which has remained intact, offers individually decorated country style rooms. The more modern garden annex consists of further generously appointed rooms with a grape-vine covered patio. Exquisite comfort and personal service is just waiting for you. West Coast

Day 2 Monday, 23 August 2021

After breakfast we travel to the West Coast National Park and Postberg Flower Reserve, situated between the sparkling blue lagoon and sea. Look out for a variety of wildlife species (eland, gemsbok, zebra and ostrich) contrasting prettily with the kaleidoscope of brilliant spring flowers carpeting the reserve. We immerse ourselves in discovering flowers, wildlife and whales (if we are lucky!). We then travel to the quaint fishing village of Paternoster for the night.

Day 3 Tuesday, 24 August 2021

In the morning there is some free time to explore Paternoster village before we travel along the West Coast route following the Spring flowers. The spectacular Vanrhyns Pass brings us to Niewoudtville and Calvinia, the heart of wild flower country and bulb capital of the world! We check into our warm and inviting historic guest house in Calvinia for the night.

Die Hantam Guest house

Overnight: DIE HANTAM HUIS GUEST HOUSE, CALVINIA
The Hantam Huis Guest House consists of a complex of restored authentic Karoo style houses offering a full range of en suite accommodation. All meals are served in the historic Hantam Huis, an authentic building dating back to 1854 and the oldest house in Calvinia. Dinners are presented here by candlelight and romantic music.

Namaqualand Flowers

Day 4 Wednesday, 25 August 2021

We spend a full day exploring the natural wonders and wild flowers of Niewoudtville and its surrounding regions (containing over 500 flora species and the richest concentration of geophytes (bulbs) in the world. Highlights include a botanical walk on a private farm and a visit to the Niewoudtville Wild Flower Reserve. At the end of the day we arrive in Clanwilliam.

Blommenberg is a modern Victorian-style building and offers a total of 13 spacious en-suite bedrooms. All rooms are equipped with air conditioning/heating, mini bars, DSTV, tea and coffee making facilities and electric blankets in winter. Nine of the rooms overlook a lush garden-courtyard with swimming pool. The remaining four rooms are self-catering and are situated on the front veranda and offer a view of the Cederberg Mountains.

Day 5 Thursday, 26 August 2021

After breakfast we enjoy a walk in Ramskop Nature Reserve which contains a variety of more than 350 species of cultivated wild flowers. The walks on the laid-out paths through the garden also offer a beautiful view over the Clanwilliam Dam and of the Cederberg Mountains.

We then visit the Rooibos Teahouse and for a special tasting of a variety of teas followed by lunch. All of the rooibos tea grows on the slopes of the Cederberg mountain range in a 150km radius from Clanwilliam. The harsh climate and fertile soil combine to form this rare herbal treasure, only to be found in South Africa. We return to Cape Town where you spend the night at The Old Bank Hotel Cape Town.

Old Bank Hotel, a restored heritage building built in 1902 by renowned architects Black and Fagg, was the original Nedbank building in the Cape. Oozing charm and sophistication, old meets new in this celebration of classic Victorian architecture and modern design. The entrance to the hotel is via a towering domed glass arch on the ground floor where a doorman will meet you and guide you up to the 8th floor. The elevator doors open into a light and open space that holds the reception, a private dining area and restaurant, a state of the art wine cellar and a show-stopping bar – the perfect space to sit back and enjoy the city views with a classic Old Fashioned or one of our signature cocktails. On warm summer days relax on the loungers and breathe in the distant sounds of the vibrant city below.

Day 6 Friday, 27 August 2021

After breakfast, check out of the hotel and settle any extras direct. Transfer to Cape Town Airport for your flight to Durban.

Our driver will meet us at King Shaka Airport to take us home after a fabulous, colourful time away.
