Chacma Bush Camp Maseke Game Reserve Greater Kruger

A Big 5 destination deep in the heart of the Maseke Game Reserve, Greater Kruger

Chacma Bush Camp, enviably located deep within the heart of the Maseke Game Reserve (a management area of the Balule Private Nature Reserve), offers the perfect Big Five safari experience in undulating landscapes dotted with rocky outcrops.

This family-friendly camp sleeps a total of 10 people, and thus offers an authentic and intimate safari experience close to the Olifants River. Wildlife weave their way through the mopane woodlands hugging the camp’s perimeter, which provides the perfect natural habitat for a variety of species. There are 3 chalets at Chacma Bush Camp, constructed from a mix of stone and natural boulders. Each of the rooms is similar in its decor, amenities and finishings but differs slightly in its layout and views. All rooms have air-con, plenty of cupboard space and en-suite bathroom with shower. Klipspringer sleeps a family of 6 people and has an outdoor shower, Steenberg chalet sleeps 3 people and is next to the main area with a direct view of the waterhole, and the Grysbok chalet has two separate rooms sleeping 2 adults and 2 children.

During the summer months, guests can relax at the swimming pool while observing wildlife at the waterhole in front of camp. Evening times are spent swapping stories around the roaring campfire in the boma area, and dinners are spent indulging in traditional cuisine in the rustic lapa. Enjoy daily game drives in this 8000 hectare reserve, and special excursions such as sundowners, bush breakfasts and star gazing. Chacma is an exquisite and rare camp surrounded by the untamed wild.

Expect to see the big five over the course of a 3 night stay. In addition to the big five that are regularly sighted include giraffe, zebra, warthog, spotted hyena, baboon, hippo, impala, kudu, vervet monkey, waterbuck, wildebeest, bushbaby, mongoose, duiker and steenbok. You might also see wild dog, cheetah, honey badger, porcupine, aardvark, civet, caracal and serval. Birds that are regularly seen are vultures, owls, bee-eaters, rollers, eagles, bustards, hornbills, starlings and shrikes.

On game drives you are able to get a lot closer to big game than you would in a national park. The animals are generally habituated to the vehicle. This means that they are used to the vehicle approaching them and know that it never causes them harm. This enables to you to get within five to 10 metres of the large animals – and safely! All game drives are conducted in open 4 x 4 Toyota Land Cruisers or Land Rovers.
