Family Time at Dugong Beach Lodge, Mozambique

Island-style relaxation with the family

This family paradise resort on the East African seaboard is situated along the Southern Mozambique Coast, within 30 000 hectares of pristine marine and wildlife territory, in the Vilanculos Coastal & Wildlife Sanctuary. The diverse eco-system of wilderness and wetland is mesmerizing. Luxuriously appointed, air-conditioned chalets have direct access to the beach via individual pathways so you can watch the kids swim from the comfort of your private deck. Two of the chalets have a private plunge pool – perfect for families. The main area has a beautiful interflowing swimming pool and island bar as well as a dining/lounge/library area and deck.

Family Activities from Dugong:
Sundowner Dhow Cruises are such fun for young and old whilst you see nature unfold and watch the sun set.
• With the lodge situated in a 30,000 hectare sanctuary, feel free to discover the magnificent area on self-guided walks and at your leisure.
Snorkelling right in front of the lodge around the jetty during the incoming tide is very rewarding.
• Take a small kayak and paddle after dolphins or drift between the mangroves and enjoy the silence. Better still, paddle to the emerging sandbanks and enjoy solitude. For the more active, a long paddle north along the coast to Pelican Bay can be enjoyed.
Massage Treatments can be enjoyed in the privacy of your chalet.
• Hours of pleasure and great distances can be covered with a hobie cat.
• The wildlife in the sanctuary includes Livingstone’s Eland, Blue Wildebeest, Plains Zebra, Giraffe, Nyala, Red Duiker, Steenbok and Grey Duiker. The large flocks of Flamingos and Pelicans are a sight to behold and all of these animals live in harmony in this conservation paradise. Game drives take you into the sanctuary.
Island Excursions: The boat can be hired for island excursions. You will be provided with an experienced skipper who knows the tricky channels and destinations.  A highly recommended activitity to enjoy the islands, collect pansy shells, swim in the aqua coloured ocean and decadent lunches on the beach!
Deep Sea Fishing: A half hour trip will take you to the fishing grounds in the deep blue, where there is an excellent chance of landing the fish of your dreams. Try your angling hand at many different species of game fish including Wahoo, Darado, Yellow Fin Tuna, King and Queen Mackerel as well as billfish (Sail fish and Black Marlin). The boat can accommodate up to four anglers.
Diving: If you would like to see the bottom of the ocean and experience the marine life up close and personal, this activity is for you. If you are lucky you might be able to get up close to the nearly extinct “Atlantic Dugong” (which resembles a sea lion). A diving license is required.
