Description
KALAHARI BIG CATS & RAPTORS
Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park Safari 2027
5–12 February 2027 | 8 Days / 7 Nights
Your Kalahari adventure
Our journey begins in Upington, before travelling through the Kalahari duneveld to Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park.
At Twee Rivieren, we’ll enjoy game drives through the southern section of the park, an area known for lion, leopard, cheetah and meerkat sightings. The illuminated waterhole provides another opportunity to watch wildlife visiting after dark.
We then travel along the Nossob River Valley towards Nossob, renowned for lion activity, brown hyenas and excellent raptor sightings. A visit to Cubitjie Quap Waterhole offers a particularly good opportunity to observe birds of prey.
The final section of the safari takes us towards Mata Mata, an area particularly well known for cheetah, as well as lion, hyena and giraffe. We will also visit the Raptor Interpretation Centre, learning more about the remarkable birds of prey found throughout the Kalahari.
A paradise for big cats and birds of prey
Kgalagadi is particularly renowned for its predators and exceptional birdlife. More than 300 bird species have been recorded in the park, including numerous raptors. Keep your eyes to the skies for species ranging from the tiny pygmy falcon to the magnificent Verreaux’s eagle.
The safari follows the Twee Rivieren, Nossob and Mata Mata areas, giving us the opportunity to experience different landscapes and wildlife habitats within the park.
More than a safari
Along the way, there will be time to appreciate the extraordinary scenery of the Kalahari — its sweeping red dunes, dry riverbeds, open landscapes and hardy wildlife. On our return to Upington, we also have the opportunity to stop near the area where members of the Khomani San community may offer traditional handicrafts for sale.
This is a safari for travellers who enjoy wildlife, photography, birding and wide-open African landscapes, and who want to spend several days immersed in one of Southern Africa’s most distinctive wilderness areas.
