Visit a Rhino Orphanage, Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa

  • The Zululand Rhino Orphanage is a specialized facility for the care and rehabilitation of orphaned rhino calves.
  • Visit the facility and learn more about the amazing work they do and meet the rhinos and hear their stories.
  • Donation of R5000 per visit – max 6 people. (shared amongst 6 visitors)

Rhino Dehorning, Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa

  • Join our wildlife management team on a unique rhino dehorning experience.
  • Hear the reasons why we dehorn our rhino and get first-hand knowledge from our ground crew and highly respected veterinarian.
  • Watch as the rhino is darted from the helicopter, then join our ground crew and get up close to the rhino whilst assisting in collecting DNA samples and taking measurements, all of this contributing to the protection of the species.
  • The procedure is not harmful in any way and our veterinarian and wildlife management team is highly experienced ensuring the welfare of the rhino during the procedure.
  • Cost of R1200 per person Minimum 8 people. Max 20.  Price applies to children over the age of 6 years

Animal Tracking 

  • Join a wildlife monitoring session and learn about the use of telemetry equipment and follow one of the collared animals – an exciting and educational experience.
  • Monitoring specific individuals, packs or prides is an important part of wildlife management.
  • Cost R750 per person – max 10 (3 hours duration)

Elephant & Rhino Experience Getaways with veterinarian Dr. Johan Marais 

  • Dr Johan Marais is the founder of Saving the Survivors, non profit organisation 
  • Taking the way and why you travel to whole new level
  • Learn the importance of conservation and preservation of our wild spaces and the wildlife that find refuge here
  • Learn the complex social structures of elephant cows and bulls and their intriguing behavioural patterns, their importance to wildlife areas and their amazing and peculiar anatomy whilst gaining an insight into the long term effects of the ivory trade
  • Gain a better understanding of Rhino, the rhino horn trade and the importance of protecting this iconic species
  • Johan accompanies you on safari activities allowing for in depth discussions during activities whilst observing wildlife
  • Outside of regular activities, guests will be able to listen to insightful presentations and engage in discussions with Johan in the comforts of the lodge
